A PASTORAL MESSIAH - Handel
adapted for semi-staging by Lynn Binstock
THE WEDDING - various composers
written by Tony Harris
A Pastoral Messiah
is set in rural England in the early 19th century. It is a serious exploration of the puzzle of sacred and secular love. The story of the Saviour has deep personal significance for the young squire, his farming tenants, and the milkmaid he betrays. An Anglican parson and a charismatic (& female) Methodist preacher tend to the troubled relationships amongst their flocks.
The Wedding
is a 45-minute comic romp about a lottery winner trying to marry her son into blue-blooded stock. It features household name operatic arias, beautifully sung in English, with new lyrics.
